TPM 024 : From 6-Figures in Fitness to International Business Relations with Adam Griggs
This week I have a chat with Adam Griggs, VP for the J. A. Knapp Agency!
I thought it was cool that we connected through business, but were able to further connect with our mutual interest in comic books, conventions, and sci-fi. I don’t know how common it is, but people should connect over their passions more often.
I was less able to connect with the idea of wanting to be a rocket scientist. Math and me have this love-hate relationship. I love knowing about math, but really understanding it? A little bit less so.
In this episode, Adam shares about how he dropped out of school to earn over $100,000 a year in the Fitness industry. He talks about how his entrepreneurial journey consists of trying a plethora of different things, and how he found his way into commercial insurance and international business brokering.
This is a guy with a lot of valuable experience. His journey is a good example of why we shouldn’t limit ourselves. If you’ve got a lot of interests, it’s easy to feel confused as to what we should pursue. While it may not be practical to do EVERYTHING all at once, it’s definitely worth it to try more than one path.
There is no ‘sunk-cost fallacy’ with life. You have one life, and there is no right or wrong, better or worse path. Your journey is yours, the more you explore, the more likely you are to find something that clicks with your soul.
Adam drops a lot of value in this episode, it was a great conversation. And, sidebar, I really enjoyed editing this one. If you haven’t checked out the episode, listen to it at the end of this post, or click here to subscribe in iTunes.
Adam’s advice to build a powerful mindset:
Don’t worry. Worry is a wasted emotion. No matter how much you worry it won’t change the facts, you just have to face consequences and move forward.
If you’ve hung around me then you’ve probably heard me say it multiple times, but for real- don’t worry. Yes, this is a movie quote, but it just makes you suffer twice. Life is hard enough, it makes sense to not be double hard on yourself!
If there’s one other thing to take away from this episode, it’s to keep your options in life open. Another way to put it is “Don’t limit yourself.” Adam was making over $10,000 per month in the field of Fitness by the time he was 20. For many people, myself included, if you’re making that kind of money, why would you need to change? That’s a salary that many people don’t see in their entire life.
By the same token, if we get comfortable, we might miss out on opportunities that would otherwise quote end quote, ‘fall in our lap.’ Luck is just opportunity meeting preparation, if you feel set, then you could miss what’s right in front of you!
