TPM 034 : Discover What Drives You, and Go! With Johnathan Grzybowski
A Powerful Mindset: One that begins with loving yourself. – Johnathan Grzybowski
This week we’re joined by the host of The Blind Entrepreneur Podcast, Johnathan Grzybowski. In his show, he interviews millennial entrepreneurs doing big things and changing the world. He got me thinking from a lot of different perspectives. It’s always refreshing when I get to challenge and stretch my own mind.
A big one we went over today was the stigma around millennials. Being a millennial entrepreneur, you do hear about the idea of millennials being lazy, entitled, always complaining etc… What we don’t always pay as much attention to or hear about, though, is the things that others are doing. The ones who aren’t always complaining, being lazy, or entitled.
Yes, I think you’ll find lazy and entitled people in our generation, but you can find them in any generation if you’re looking. By that same token, if you look to see who’s out there changing the world and making a difference, you can find millennials doing that too. When you think about it, some of the most influential companies today are headed and run by millennials. That’s anyone born between 1982 and 1993 according to the Pew research center.
He mentions the concept of “The Blind Entrepreneur” as a metaphor for life. There are situations in life, where we’ll find ourselves quote end quote, blind. In order to learn a new skill, you have to first not know it, so you may essentially be going in blind. I think for anyone undertaking an entrepreneurial endeavor of some kind, this may especially be true.
He talks about personal growth, and really emphasizes the importance of knowing who you are, as the base for building your dreams and goes a bit into some ways that we can discover or to create that.
It might sound weird, but his idea of needing to have a short-term memory holds a lot of truth. We will all inevitably make mistakes in our lives, but it’s important to not dwell on those mistakes. Acknowledge them, apologize if necessary – including if that means apologizing to yourself – and move forward.
In addition to that, Johnathan spoke about the importance of really knowing who you are, so that you can know what you want. Because if we don’t really understand or know what drives us, then it’s impossible to find out what will make us feel fulfilled, and we’ll be shooting in the dark without direction. When you really understand who you are and what drives you, it becomes easier to understand and accept, and to love yourself. When you can operate from that space, miracles can happen.
