TPM 042 : Learn to use the Power of Emotional Intelligence with Jeff East
A Powerful Mindset: One that exercises optimism
This week we’re talking with Jeff East from Spirit of EQ. EQ stands for emotional quotient, and is the capacity of a person to recognize their own and other peoples emotions, and how to use this knowledge to guide thinking and behavior.
This isn’t the first thing you’d think of when you picture a business environment or corporate office, but those are the people that Jeff and spirit of EQ assist the most. You always hear that in business and career, relationships are everything. But the connotations typically associated with business isn’t a warm and fuzzy compassionate environment, but is usually something cold and has to do with “meeting the bottom line”.
Jeff talks about why Emotional Intelligence doesn’t just help a business earn income, but helps them to build a thriving environment for employees and clients, and that in turn boosts profits as well as overall happiness on both ends. Turns out, people are more productive when they feel appreciated and cared for.
In this episode, he talks about why Emotional Intelligence has actually been on a downward trend in the US, and what we can do about it.
He also gives some useful tips on things you can do today, to grow your own EQ.
Empathy, Emotional Intelligence – whatever you want to call it. It is important to have a connection with yourself and with others. I’d argue that it’s perhaps more important to be familiar with your own emotions, because often that disconnect within ourselves can manifest into an even larger disconnect when it comes to relating to others. In turn, a strong and healthy connection to your own emotions can lead to greater and deeper connections with others.
