Saving Tomorrow’s Problems for Tomorrow’s Me
The title is a quote from one of my favorite cartoons. Regardless of where the quote comes from, I think it holds a grain of truth. I’ve had a habit of worrying. I worry about what would happen if I can’t pay bills. Worry that if I don’t eat healthy then my health will slip. Worry that I won’t accomplish my goals.
The funny thing is that all of those things, and the many more worries not mentioned here, are hypothetical situations that haven’t happened and may never happen. It doesn’t make sense to spend time ‘worrying’ about fictional scenarios. The worrying doesn’t make that fictional scenario go away, nor will it provide a fictional solution.
A better, more productive thing is to live in the present. We don’t live in tomorrow, and if you think about it, we never will. You can only live in the now, so don’t let your mind wander into stressful hypotheticals. Take each day as it comes, and savor the small wins.
This isn’t to say don’t make goals or plan for the future. By all means, make goals and follow a plan. But don’t stress about tomorrows ‘plan’ today. Just relax, and take each day one at a time.
